According to EEMUA 158 standard, the welding procedure qualification is required when the repair welding procedure is different from the original weld. In this paper, for S355 grade structural steel, the original weld is welded with automatic submerged arc welding procedure. After welding, the visual and non-destructive tests are carried out. Then carbon arc gouging and grinding are performed on the original weld. The repair depth is half of the wall thickness of the base metal. The repair area includes the original weld and base material. The flux cored arc welding procedure is used for the repair welding. After the repair, the visual and non-destructive tests are carried out. The related mechanical tests, such as transverse tensile test, full weld tensile test, impact test,macro-corrosion examination and hardness test are carried out on the repaired weld. The test results meet the requirements of EEMUA 158 standard and obtain the approval of DNV GL.
