Friction stir welding process is used to weld ZL102 aluminum alloy with the thickness of 15 mm.The formation of weld is observed and the microstructure and properties of the joints are analyzed.The results show that under this experimental condition,the weld is well formed at the rotating speed of 900 r/min andwelding speed of 50 mm/min.The microstructure grain in the nugget zone is finer than that in the base metal,which is fine equiaxed grain.The microhardness of welded joint asymmetrically distributes along the weld center,and the maximum microhardness is in the weld nugget zone on forward side deviating from the weld center.And the microhardnessin the plate thickness direction gradually declines,which means the hardness of shoulder function zone is maximum and that of bottom is minimum.
