In this paper, the distribution of residual stresses in both transversal and longitudinal directions of the welds on the inner and outer walls of HPR1000 main pipe is studied by means of hole release method. The results show that the distribution trend of the measured values of the inner and outer walls of the specimens is tensile stress in the weld zone and heat-affected zone, and the value far away from the weld gradually decreases. Because of the large wall thickness of the pipeline, and deformation superimposed after layer by layer welding, the residual stress on the outer wall of the test piece is marginally high. The residual stress in the center of the weld seam of the inner wall reaches 100 MPa to 150 MPa. And the residual stress in the center of the outer weld of the repair weld reaches 150 MPa to 200 MPa.
