Metal cutting plays an important role in the fields of infrastructure and intelligent manufacturing in China.However, traditional metal cutting techniques can no longer satisfy the user’s new demands, which are caused by labor shortages, a sharp increase in labor costs, and the harsh requirements for energy conservation and environmental protection. In order to increase production efficiency and alleviate labor intensity, this paper proposes a remote operation and maintenance system for the metal cutting machines. This system makes full use of Internet of Things, cloud services, big data, industrial bus, and digital control technique. It can reduce the technical requirements for operators and improve the dirty working environment, which is valuable for the development of the metal cutting unmanned factory.
