Microstructure and performances of twin-electrode gas tungsten arc weld for dissimilar metals of stainless steel and low alloy steel
Twin-electrode gas tungsten arc(TE-GTA)welding is applied to clad stainless steel on low alloy steel. The dilution rate, microstructure, type II boundary, martensite zone of the welds are analyzed. The chemical composition, hardness, impact and inter-granular corrosion of surfacing layer are tested. The results show that as the heat input increases, dilution rate and grain size increase, type II boundary migrates further, and the martensite zone grow larger. When the heat input is constrained, the mechanical performances of TE-GTA welds are similar to those of single GTA. But when the heat input is excessive, the weld performances obviously deteriorate.
