The selection principle and engineering application of X80 pipeline steel welding consumables were reviewed.The results show that the selection of welding consumables can follow the principle of " microstructure type matching ",that is,to make the microstructure of the weld close to that of the base metal as far as possible,to ensure the best mechanical properties and weldability of the joint.There are two types of steel welding consumables（covered electrodes and welding wires）,and the five combined welding processes have their own characteristics.The STT and RMD processes are advanced low hydrogen root welding techniques; the low temperature toughness stability of self-shielded flux cored wire welds needs to be strictly controlled.X80 steel pipes with different diameters and wall thicknesses have been successfully applied in different engineering by using matched welding consumables and reasonable processes.High quality,high efficiency and automation are the main goals and directions pursued by engineering construction.
