The purpose of this paper is to explore the necessity and innovative directions for the training of International Welding Technicians (IWT) to meet the demand for high-quality applied talents in modern intelligent welding manufacturing enterprises and higher vocational colleges with vertical integration. The IWT training program is outlined

including admission requirements

pathways

and curriculum design

which covers three parts: basic theory

welding practice

and main courses

emphasizing the integration of theory and practice

and involving international welding standards. The role of IWT in the ISO 14731 standard is elaborated

as well as their important function in enterprises

indicating that as welding management professionals with professional competence

they possess the ability and skills to solve problems in the field of welding technology

which is more suitable for the talent needs of modern enterprises. The current status of IWT training is further analyzed

pointing out that the number of trainees is relatively small

the training methods are relatively single

mainly targeting incumbent workers

and there is a gap compared to developed countries. The future development direction of IWT training is prospected

suggesting that it aligns more closely with the talent needs of modern enterprises and can serve as a catalyst for cultivating applied talents. It is recommended to collaborate with higher vocational colleges for joint training to meet the talent demands of intelligent enterprises.
