In response to the current problem of difficulty in repairing and reusing non-magnetic drilling tools, by analyzing the performance characteristics, wear mechanism, and joint damage forms of non-magnetic drilling tools, melting electrode arc surfacing technology was selected to repair the non-magnetic pressure bearing drilling rods with joint wear failure. A metal powder core wire material suitable for repairing the wear and eccentric wear of non-magnetic drilling tool joints was designed, with the brand of LoWare®-NMBU. The results of the welding repair test show that the cladding metal is an iron based austenitic welded structure. After repair, the P550 pressure bearing drill pipe with wear failure has an average tensile strength of 550 MPa at room temperature, an average Brinell hardness of 320 HB, a Charpy impact energy greater than 120 J, and a magnetic permeability less than 1.01, meeting the requirements for the use of non magnetic pressure bearing drill pipes.
